Women in need of a man to find them

17 Oct

Last night during the second Presidential debate, I was troubled. Troubled by all the necessary fact-checking on both sides of the debate (kudos to moderator Candy Crowley for crow barring in the facts regarding the US’ statements about the embassy bombing in Libya), and troubled… as a woman.

When I heard Romney essentialize working women as a group who want to leave work at 5 to make dinner for our families, I was not feeling Mitt as a candidate who lives in the 21st century. And I won’t get into Mitt’s heroic attempt to find women qualified to staff the MA Governor’s cabinet.

I’ll let The New Yorker do that. Whatever analyses or opinions you’re reading about the debate today, make time for “Mitt’s Binders and the Missing Women” (http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/comment/2012/10/mitt-romney-binders-and-the-missing-women.html?mbid=gnep&google_editors_picks=true). It’s spot on.
