I felt hurt on opening my wardrobe and seeing my uniform, school bag and geometry box. Boys’ schools are opening tomorrow, but the Taliban have banned girls’ education” (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-19954043).
–Malala Yousafzai, 02/08/09
14 year old Malala Yousafzai is an education activist and proponent of secularism, at least in matters of education. That has nearly cost her her life. Writing for BBC Urdu about her desire for equality in Pakistani education for the past three years, Yousafzai literally came under fire when two armed men shot her in the head and wounded two other girls traveling with her.
In recovery now, Yousafzai is now getting a different kind of attention, as Pakistanis and people the world over express their support for her and her cause.
This is just to send more love her way.
And you can read more from her BBC diary here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7889120.stm.
