This photo is from Benjamin Bechet’s I am Winnie the Pooh series. According to website io9, Bechet’s “point is to put familiar faces on often invisible workers, especially immigrants who are struggling to make it in a new country. People may not notice the man sleeping on the bench, but they’re sure to notice when Mickey Mouse does it” http://io9.com/5888349/when-they-cant-get-crimefighting-work-superheroes-turn-to-menial-jobs.
I like the play on heroism and humanity, and the reclamation of immigrant identity. In a time when immigrants are labeled “illegal,” I’m glad someone is pointing out just how heroic it is to leave home to make a better life for yourself and your family.
